History
Illinois is one of the many states that The Shadow travels to in his war on crime, especially Chicago -- a city with a reputation for mobsters and political corruption during the depression era.
Chicago is notorious for a landmark case involving The Shadow which killed one of his agents, Claude Fellows.[1]
Several other crime sprees and racketeers have brought The Shadow back to Chicago. Once, a nationwide group of criminal spiritualist hired some gang members from Chicago to murder Detective Joe Cardona when he was uncovering too much evidence against them. The Shadow intervened, and as a result laid to waste the threatening thugs. [2]
When The Hand, who were five crooks, or better known as five "fingers," who worked together, reached forth into Chicago to collect insurance profits for murders, the clutch of The Shadow was stronger. He ended the racket and one of the members, "Long Steve" Bydle, along with it.
